Position: Lead Instructor
Department: Game Art & Design
Type: Full-time, in person
Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 per year

VanArts is seeking a passionate professional to be the Lead Instructor of our Game Art & Design program.

You will be a lead instructor 35 hours per week, and instrumental in the program’s curriculum development to best serve student and industry needs. The goal of the Game Art & Design program is to prepare students for careers as asset creators, from concept to completion for films, video games, game integration, and mobile apps.

Reports To

Senior Education Administrator (SEA) / Operations Manager

Please Note

To start, part of your teaching hours may be in other departments/programs, such as Visual Effects for Film & Television. If you have experience and expertise in other fields, let us know.

Responsibilities

  • 18-21 hours: Teach in area(s) of expertise.
  • 14-17 hours a week:
    • Curriculum development
    • Assess, grade, and input grades for your assignments.
    • Assist in hiring faculty to be part of a team working to meet standards and goals set by you and the school.
    • Assist in creating and upholding learning objectives for the program and set standards for a positive learning experience in which students can excel in their chosen disciplines.
    • Review and update curriculum as needed.
    • Meet with experienced industry studio artists and Vanarts Department Heads to ensure curriculum content and delivery is maximized for learning objectives.
    • Review curriculum development with SEA (Senior Education Administrator) and Operations Manager.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience working in the video game industry.
  • Teaching experience is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Expertise with current industry software, standards, and practices in two or more of the following:
    • Maya, ZBrush, Python
    • 3D Modeling: soft and hard surface (Characters, Props, Environments)
    • Surface, shading & texture design
    • Lighting
    • Motion capture – Motion Builder
    • Game engine integration – Unreal engine
