Intro to Basic Drawing

This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to draw and primarily for students who are keen on our full-time programs, but need to develop their drawing skills for their portfolio. The very basics of drawing will be covered: composition, perspective, blind contours and structural life drawing (using nude figure models).

Students will have sketchbook homework assignments and be expected to draw every day in order to develop their skills. This course serves as an ideal preparation for developing a portfolio for the full-time programs at VanArts.

Instructor Bio:

This course is taught by local animator & concept artist Stephen Pearce, who has has worked in several Vancouver studios, including AKA Cartoon, Bardel/Dreamworks, Mainframe, Digital Alchemy  & Backbone Entertainment. His credits include Mtv's Cartoon Sushi, Stickin Around, Joseph-King of Dreams, ActionMan, Bomberman & Heavy Gear. Supplies needed for this course:  Pencil set (HB to 9B, must be graphite), General's Soft charcoal pencil, blue & red Prisma color pencils, ruler, Staedtler Vinyl eraser, kneaded eraser, large newsprint sketchpad, 8.5x11 sketchbook, small color wheel, 24-soft pastel set, binder for storing handouts.
