EXHIBITION & CRITIQUE - Starts Monday, September 12th
(Contact us about our early-bird discounts!) This course will help you develop new concepts and self-assigned photo projects to keep you inspired and creating new work. Ongoing group critiques will help you refine your vision and execution to support your creative potential. This course will culminate in a group show where your work will be proudly displayed in a gallery for your friends, family and fellow photography-lovers to enjoy. The opening night artists' reception is a fun event and a wonderful way to celebrate your creative achievements!
VIDEO PRODUCTION FOR DSLR PHOTOGRAPHERS - Starts Saturday, October 1st
The world of digital photography is evolving rapidly and the most exciting development is the rise of HD video recording in DSLR cameras. This workshop will teach you video capture techniques, the conventions of cinematography and basic non-linear editing. You will create a short video over the course of this weekend workshop and leave feeling more confident and inspired to create video projects of your own.

William (Bill) Dwelly’s film credits include multiple Oscar-winning Avatar as Lead Technical Director at Weta Digital; I Robot & King Kong as Senior Animation Technical Director and Oscar-winning animated short Ryan. Bill has worked in the film and entertainment industry since the late 1980’s and is the author of two books; Modeling in Maya and Character Rigging in Maya.
Graduation Fall 2011

Thursday, September 8th, 2011 we celebrated the graduation of our full-time students in Character Animation, Game Art & Design, Visual Effects and Digital Photography who began their studies last Fall. Also recognized were graduates from Acting, Web Development and Broadcasting who had completed their studies and graduated earlier in the year. The ceremony & reception was held at the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts at SFU's Woodwards campus, and featured an inspiring message by our guest speaker Corwin Hiebert, founder of Vancouver's Creative Mix Ideation Conference.
A big thanks to all of our staff who helped our graduates with this achievement, and to friends and family who supported them. The future of the arts is in good hands!

New Students welcomed for Fall 2011
September 15th, 2011On September 6, 2011 we welcomed a record number of full-time students to VanArts in our programs for Character Animation, Game Art & Design, Visual Effects, Digital Photography, Acting, and Web Development & Interactive Design. We are also looking forward to welcoming new students in Broadcasting for Radio & TV on September 22.
Orientation was followed by a student mixer in our studio, and classes are now well underway! Welcome to everyone, and we look forward to your time with us this year.

CBC Broadcaster George Stroumboulopoulos visits VanArts
September 30th, 2011Columbia Academy at VanArts was thrilled to receive a special guest visit today from award-winning broadcaster George Stroumboulopoulos, host of CBC's talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight.
George was in Vancouver for a CBC Open House and by invitation from our Broadcasting for Radio & Television department, took time from his busy schedule to visit and tour our campus, and address our students & staff in an exciting Q & A session. Broadcasting student David Lemley, who was instrumental in arranging for this event, interviewed George about his career and what advice he wished to share for our students.




Our Broadcasting Department Head AJ Junop states, "Columbia Academy at VanArts wants to thank George Stroumboulopoulos for taking the time to visit us. We can honestly say that George was one of THE most INSPIRATIONAL guest speakers we have ever had. Our thanks to Carolyn, Nadia and Kelly from CBC as well. Thanks to everyone at VanArts for coming out, and special thanks to future broadcasting superstar David Lemley for instigating and MCing the event. Great job!"
