When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true…
When Agata Matuszak first walked into VanArts inquiring about our programs in 2003, she told Admissions that her dream was to work on Disney movies. Switching gears from a pre-med background, she was accepted into VanArts after working hard on her portfolio, and studied for two years in both 2D and 3D Animation. From there, a long career would begin to unfold.
Agata’s first job was with Veda Games in India, followed by returning to Vancouver for several years of work at Rainmaker Entertainment, Digital Domain, Prime Focus, Image Engine and Sony Pictures Imageworks. Agata’s feature film credit list would grow to include Thor, X-Men First Class, Smurfs 2, Spiderman 2, Chappie, Hotel Transylvania 2 and many more…including the realization of her dream working on her first Disney movie Oz the Great and Powerful!
Most recently Agata made the big leap to New Zealand as a Senior Animator at WETA Digital, where she realized her dream even further – by getting to work on two more Disney movies: The Jungle Book and The BFG.
About her time at VanArts which started her on this entire journey, Agata says, “My experience at VanArts was amazing. During the 2 years studying 2D and 3D animation, it was a lot of hard work and many late nights, but without those challenging exercises and well balanced classes that gave us more one-on-one time with the teachers and hard work, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
