Session 1: Video Recording for DSLR Photographers

In this 2-day weekend session, students will learn the basics of pre-production, cinematography, lighting, stabilization and motion while capturing footage for a short video project. The course finishes off with basic editing using the latest editing software.

Day 1

Demo of available equipment and its applications
Hands-on project with students using various lighting & stabilizing tools to capture footage for a short video project.

Day 2

Lecture (Computer Lab)
Introduction to non-linear editing and importing video
Video formats and file handling
Introduction to editing software options
Demonstration of editing software

1:00pm - 5:00pm
Students begin importing, converting, and organizing their footage
Hands-on editing with instructor supervision and guidance
Exporting projects for distribution and viewing


This series of intensive weekend courses is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of video for DSLR photographers. Through classroom discussions, visual examples and hands-on workshops we discuss how to add DSLR video to a photographer's repertoire.

Each weekend session focuses on one of three essential aspects of video production and can be taken individually or as a full packaged series.

At the end of this course you will have more confidence in using your camera and equipment, an understanding of basic video production principles, increased skill in manipulating creative tools and a renewed excitement for what DSLR cameras have to offer. Whether you are an aspiring professional, a dedicated hobbyist or a weekend warrior, this course is sure to satisfy your taste for video production!

Video-capable digital SLR camera with at least 1 lens
Memory Card

Pre-requisites: Digital Photography 101 or equivalent fundamental understanding of digital photography

Duration: Each session is 2 days, Saturday / Sunday from 10am to 5pm
