Media Arts Boot Camp coming in 2012
December 6th, 2011Coming up soon from March 5 - 9, 2012 is our annual Media Arts Boot Camp, a work experience program for BC high school students. Selected recruits will have the opportunity to receive 5 days of hands-on training in one of these two courses:
Broadcasting for Radio & Television
Acting for Film & Television

Project from DSLR Video Course
November 15th, 2011The Fall 2011 session of our new Video Production for DSLR Photographers series of part-time weekend courses has just recently completed, taught by instructor Scott Hastings. Here is a sample of one project that was completed in the course's first weekend by student Jimmy Sira, also starring some of our full-time staff and students.
This series of intensive weekend courses is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of video for DSLR photographers. Through classroom discussions, visual examples and hands-on workshops we discuss how to add DSLR video to a photographer's repertoire.

EXHIBITION & CRITIQUE - Starts Monday, September 12th
(Contact us about our early-bird discounts!) This course will help you develop new concepts and self-assigned photo projects to keep you inspired and creating new work. Ongoing group critiques will help you refine your vision and execution to support your creative potential. This course will culminate in a group show where your work will be proudly displayed in a gallery for your friends, family and fellow photography-lovers to enjoy. The opening night artists' reception is a fun event and a wonderful way to celebrate your creative achievements!
VIDEO PRODUCTION FOR DSLR PHOTOGRAPHERS - Starts Saturday, October 1st
The world of digital photography is evolving rapidly and the most exciting development is the rise of HD video recording in DSLR cameras. This workshop will teach you video capture techniques, the conventions of cinematography and basic non-linear editing. You will create a short video over the course of this weekend workshop and leave feeling more confident and inspired to create video projects of your own.

Upcoming Courses and News for Digital Photography
March 8th, 2011It's a busy time as always in the world of Digital Photography at VanArts! This week we are running our 1-week intensive verison of Digital Photography 101 with instructor Adam Blasberg. The course is a vibrant mix of part-time students with other students who are starting our full-time diploma program next Monday. A great big welcome to everyone!

New Course: Video Production for DSLR Photographers

VanArts, fresh from hosting Beau Photo's FUSION 2011 event this past weekend, is excited to announce our new part-time course series in Video Production for DSLR Photographers.
This series of intensive weekend courses is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of video for DSLR photographers. Through classroom discussions, visual examples and hands-on workshops we discuss how to add DSLR video to a photographer's repertoire.
Each weekend session focuses on one of three essential aspects of video production and can be taken individually or as a full packaged series.

VanArts Earns "Education Quality Assurance" Standing
August 19th, 2010VanArts has just been awarded British Columbia's Education Quality Assurance (EQA) standing. We're excited and proud to have received this offcial designation from the province, and believe it offers students a solid indication of the quality of both our institution and training offerings.

What is EQA?
EQA is a quality assurance designation that identifies and promotes public and private post-secondary institutions that have met or exceeded government recognized quality assurance standards and offer consumer protection mechanisms. It is a voluntary designation available to BC public and private post-secondary institutions.
EQA creates one standard brand that can be recognized globally as a symbol of quality and will reduce confusion for students by enabling them to readily see which provincial institutions the government of BC recognizes as having met quality assurance standards.

New Audition Technique Course with Aaron Douglas

The William Davis Centre for Actors Study at VanArts is proud to announce a new part-time course in Audition Technique by noted graduate Aaron Douglas, star of The Bridge and Battlestar Galactica.
This course is scheduled to launch this September, for 4 Wednesday night sessions, and other instructors will continue to host the same course in the months following.
This special course is for actors already auditioning in the industry and who would like to take their audition skills to the next level.

Part-Time Courses coming up for Fall Session
August 13th, 2010As summer winds down and people start longing for the routine of the fall season to return, minds often turn to exploring part-time studies. VanArts has a variety of courses starting in September which meet once a week in evenings or weekends.

In the realm of Digital Photography, there is the basic DP 101 course, in addition to advanced studies in Studio Lighting, Digital Workflow, and Art of Critique.
For those who wish to study Acting, there is a classic Introduction course, along with focused studies on Film & Television, Level 1 and Level 2.
Students who want to get into Art & Animation, a wide variety of courses are open for 2D Animation, Stop-Motion, Maya (Level 1 and Level 2), Comic Books, Basic Drawing, Anatomy Drawing, Digital Concept Art, Digital Life Drawing, and Colour Theory & Painting.
