Position: Visual Language and Visual Storytelling Instructor
Department: Art Foundation
Type: Part-time

VanArts is seeking a skilled and creative Visual Language and Visual Storytelling Instructor. As an Instructor, you will play a crucial role in teaching and guiding students in the art of storytelling through visual mediums, with a strong focus on storyboarding techniques and visual communication including composition, framing, camera angles, cinematography, pacing, and visual continuity. Helping students build strong and diverse portfolios showcasing their skills in visual communication.

This is a part-time position leaving you ample time for other work and projects beyond the school walls. We love working professionals who also love to teach.

Reports To

Department Head of Art Foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Review and plan out course material before beginning each course
  • Ensure content accuracy
  • Prepare lesson plans
  • Deliver course curriculum to students via in-class lectures, demonstrations, workshops, presentations, handouts, etc.
  • Assess and evaluate student work. Grade assignments and provide students with constructive feedback that supports creative development
  • Provide input to the head of the department in regards to updating the curriculum
  • Attend meetings as needed
  • Maintain professional environment for students
  • Foster students towards employment in the industry

Knowledge, Education and Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years industry experience and relevant certificate diploma or degree, or minimum 10 years industry experience.
  • Experience working as a Storyboard Artist or Comic Book Illustrator
  • Previous teaching, training or mentoring is a big plus.

The ideal candidate will be available to teach 6 hours/week between 9am-5pm on weekdays.
