Photography is an exciting way of seeing & sharing your vision with your audience. ‘Exhibition & Critique’ focuses on concept development & critique while working toward having a successful group exhibition. Lectures and Gallery Visits will help connect you to the local Vancouver art scene. Exhibition & Critique will support you in recognizing and developing your visual integrity as an artist & give you the opportunity to exhibit your work in a successful group exhibition at a local art gallery.
Class 1: Lecture – Introductions, Workshop outline, Goals & History Lecture
Class 2: Critique 1 - Artists must bring in a collection of work for critique and discussion.
Class 3: Lecture - Composition and Design.
Class 4: Concept Development/Gallery Submission Guidelines – Writing an Artist Statement, Curriculum Vitae, Bio, Submitting work to galleries.
Class 5: Gallery Visit
~3 week Creative Work Break~
Class 6: Critique 2 - Artists must share the work they intend to exhibit.
Class 7: Post / Presentation Workshop – each artist must bring raw &/or tif files for post demo, presentation & installation methods for the exhibition will be discussed.
Class 8: Artists' Statement Writing Workshop - each artist must bring rough draft of artist statement pertaining to proposed exhibition.
Class 9: Installation
Class 10: Exhibition Night
Equipment Requirements:
Camera equipment as required to execute your creative vision
Personal computer access for processing digital image files
Additional Costs:
Students will be responsible for printing their exhibition work so lab fees, paper and other presentation materials will be required.
Attendance:
Due to the volume of material being covered, it is important that students attend every class. Instructors will not repeat lecture material. Unexcused absences will directly affect your final mark. Please refer to the Digital Photography Student Handbook for more information regarding our attendance policy.
Prerequisite:
Students should have completed Digital Photography 101 or equivalent and/or have a developed portfolio, collection or body of work. Students will be expected to present a variety of work and/or work in progress throughout the course.
Duration: 10 classes
Schedule: Monday evenings, 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Cost: $495
Additional Costs: Approximately $150 for printing/mounting images
