Even with all the technology available for digital imaging today, the basic principles of nature and science can still amaze and delight.
Today in the VanArts photography studio, an interesting phenomenon was discovered during a Painting with Light course with instructor Patrick Koslo. On this particular day with the dark studio, position of the curtain and beautiful sunny day outdoors, a camera obscura effect was created when an inverted image of the Vancouver skyline just outside was actually being projected onto the wall. Staff and students were amazed, spread the word and marveled at this unique occurrence before returning to their studies. As Koslo put it, “I call it magic.”
